PhD/MS/UG Students

Are you passionate about semiconductor-based infrared (IR) optoelectronic and photonic devices? If so, we invite you to join our dynamic research lab starting in Fall 2024 or later. Together, we will build up the research lab and work on groundbreaking research to develop semiconductor-based IR photodetectors (PDs), including avalanche photodiodes (APDs) and single photon APDs (SPADs) for emerging fields such as 3D imaging, computing, sensing, communication, and quantum technology. If you are passionate about these areas and interested in joining this exciting journey, please send me your CV/transcript to Prof. Seunghyun (Jacob) Lee.

Main Tasks and Skill Set

As a member in our lab, you will receive training and develop skills in the following areas (These could also be preferred qualifications to join our research group):

1. Build-up Device Modeling Tools:

  • Build up in-house simulation tools
  • Learn about an industrial semiconductor device simulator such as SILVACO

2. Photodetector Device Fabrication:

  • Simple Wet/Dry etching-based photolithography
  • Electron-Beam Lithography

3. Set-up Characterization Tools:

  • Set up in-house characterization tools
  • Understanding of measurement system (Optics/Noise/Signal)

4. Analysis of Acquired Data:

  • Knowledge about optoelectronic device physics with modeling tools
  • Open to team discussion to solve the research problems
